Abul Fazal July 1903–4 May 1983) a Bangladeshi writer and academic who as the 4th vice-chancellor of the University of Chittagong. Was awarded the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 1962 and Independence Day Award in 2012 (posthumously). This book examines liberal humanism through the comparison of two prominent figures: Northrop Frye, a Canadian literary critic and humanist from Western secular-democratic society, and Abul Fazal, a Bengali Muslim raised in an orthodox Muslim family who eventually became a literary critic and rational liberal humanist from East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh). Although Fazal and Frye were contemporaries and unaware of each other, they shared similar ideas and belonged to similar professional backgrounds.
