Bratton, Angela
Angela R. Bratton received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from Indiana University. She is currently an assistant professor of Anthropology in the Department of History, Anthropology, and
Philosophy at Augusta State University in Augusta, Georgia. Her teaching and research interests
include gender, reproduction, African cultures, identity, education, travel and folklore.

in Kumasi, Ghana within the context of the growing emphasis on formal schooling.
Direct interviews with students, teachers and members of the community offer a rich
variety of data that allows for important conclusions about shifting conceptions of
family, education, production and reproduction.
