Brent James Schmidt teaches New Testament and ancient history courses at Brigham Young University and Weber State University. He received his Ph.D. in Classics from the University of Colorado-Boulder.

The examined communities provide examples of somewhat successful utopian experiments that belie the twentieth century notion that the application of utopian ideals must always lead to dystopia or not work at all.
