2009 0-7734-4910-8This study analyzes certain paintings by Bruegel and texts from the
Légende d’Ulenspiegel to establish the thematic convergence of the two artists’ works in their perception of sixteenth-century Flanders. De Coster and Bruegel equally celebrate the wonder of nature depicting Flemish scenes of customs and habits. In addition, the two artists illustrate and denounce the cruelty of the seven capital sins and counterbalance them with a series of virtues. This book contains twelve color photographs and twenty-eight black and white photographs.
