2001 0-7734-7466-8In the 20th century alone, over twenty Irish authors have adapted more than twenty versions of ancient Greek tragedies, or plays based on Greek themes. Through a comparative analysis of Irish dramas (from playwrights Yeats, MacNeice, Kennelly, Heaney, Mahon, and McGuinness) and the original Greek Tragedies of Aeschylus, Sophocles, and Euripides, this volume explores the theatrical relationship between the political and the personal, the Classical and the contemporary, the Irish and the Greek.
