Longsworth, Robert
About the author: Dr. Longsworth received his PhD in English from Harvard. He retired from Oberlin College as Professor of English in 2000, after 37 years of service there. The primary area of his scholarly interest has been medieval literature: he authored a book on medieval drama, The Cornish Ordinalia: Religion and Dramaturgy; and has published articles on the drama, Chaucer, and Middle English romances. As a teacher of undergraduate students, he developed a course on the History of the English Language, out of which A Decade of Campus Language at Oberlin grew.
2003 0-7734-6789-0This work examines the linguistic behavior of undergraduate students in an institution of higher education, and reflects both college students generally and Oberlin College students particularly. It will appeal to scholars who study slang, dialect, and the sociology of late 20th century collegiate life. The terms were contributed and defined by students themselves over a decade, with explanatory notes and an introductory essay.
