Adjei, William Edward
VRv. Fr. Dr. William Edward Adjei is a lecturer in Jurisprudence and Human Rights at the Faculty of Law (GIMPA). He obtained his Diploma in Theology from University of Ghana, and then took the Bachelor of Sacred Theology at the Pontifical Urbanian University, Rome. He was also awarded the degree of Master of Theology and Masters in Canon Law at the Catholic Institute of West Africa, Port-Harcourt, Nigeria and became a member of the Canon Law Association of Nigeria. He was also awarded the degree Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law from University of Aberdeen, UK. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Rights and Criminal Justice from University of Aberdeen, UK.
Dr. Adjei’s research spans freedom of religion or belief, freedom of expression, women’s rights, minority and indigenous rights in international law, and human rights in Africa. He has facilitated international human rights law training for a range of professional bodies and religious groups both in Ghana and Scotland. At GIMPA, his focus is legal philosophy, particularly African legal thoughts, the relationship between law and morality, feminist legal theory, theories of adjudication, and retributivism and utilitarian theories for justification of criminal punishment.
