About the author: Dr. Zahia Smail Salhi is a researcher in North African and Middle Eastern studies. She is lecturer in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Leeds, and Book Review Editor of the British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies. She is a member of the editorial staff of the International Journal of Francophone Studies. She received her PhD in Arabic and Islamic Studies from Exeter University
