First of a four-volume series on the origins of American hunting rights. It is the overall contention of this series that there exiests a substantial and virtually uncontradicted corpus of material that buttresses this, one of mankind's most substantial and ancient rights. The philosophical tradtions are interpreted, as well as the political traditions of the hunt and the sociopolitical climate in which hunting has been, and still is, practiced.
