Improving the Training and Evaluation of Teachers at the Secondary School Level Educating the Educators in Pursuit of Excellence

Written in response to the controversial "search for excellence" in American education which has provoked fierce debate in the past decade. Contains case studies of reform-biased experiments in education, such as the Florida Beginning Teacher Program and PROTEACH, and includes a lengthy debate as to whether universities are the best place to prepare teachers and what means should be employed to evaluate teachers. The author also hopes to stimulate a healthy skepticism about the current direction of educational reform.
