There has been little research on the role phonological memory plays in different aspects of children’s second language development. The present study investigated the developmental relation between phonological memory and second language acquisition in grade 6 Francophone children enrolled in a 5-month intensive English program in Quebec’s Saguenay region.

Reviews

“Dr. French’s [study] on the role of phonological memory in second language learning is an original and important one. His results indicated that phonological memory may play a causal role in students’ second language acquisition ... These results will be of considerable interest to the applied linguistic and psycholinguistic research communities ...” – Professor Kirsten M. Hummel, Université de Laval
