Brewer, Mary Kathryn2022 1-4955-0959-1 204 pagesFrom the author's Abstract:
This guidebook examines Verdi's 26 published art songs to highlight their pedagogical and performance value. Each song is discussed in reference to range, tessitura, poet and text, opportunities for pedagogical use, and performance recommendations. This guide shines a light on Verdi's relatively unknown art songs and provides a resource for teachers and performers in the study and performance of these pieces.
Boettcher, Bonna J.1992 0-7734-9806-0 104 pagesA critical examination of two piano works by Igor Stravinsky from a performer's point of view, pointing our reflections of eighteenth-century forms and styles, while indicating some of the transformation brought about by the composer's musical personality. Develops special insights that supplement views of theorists and historians.
Starr, James2003 0-7734-6540-5 384 pages Wilson, Gary P2005 0-7734-6161-2 344 pagesEdward MacDowell (1860-1908) was one of the first American-born composers to gain international notoriety. Relatively little scholarly research has been done that deals specifically with the choral music of Edward MacDowell. This study examines his original choral music for mixed and women's voices, and his editions for men's voices. The choruses are analyzed with a format that considers the importance of meter, tempo, rhythm, melody, harmony, tonality, form, musical/textual agreement, and expressive features. MacDowell was trained in Europe, and his music reflects the influence of late German Romanticism. An important aspect of this study was the preparation of editions of MacDowell's choral music updated to current publication standards. These editions are included in an appendix, as well as copies of the original publications for comparison. The most important scholarly contribution of this book is to make some of MacDowell’s choral music available again. MacDowell’s choral compositions have been virtually lost from the standard repertoire. All of the works examined were published between 1890–1910; they are currently out of print and unavailable to most choral musicians. This book would make part of MacDowell’s choral output available to the choral scholar and musician.

Dunkel, Allan Victor2023 1-4955-1131-6 156 pages"A career in the arts can have many ups and downs; moments of elation and intense bliss followed suddenly by depression and futile hopelessness. The intensity that we have poured into our work will mirror the desperation we feel at auditions. This book is about pain--physical, emotional and psychological. It is about my personal experiences fighting the dark side of a beautiful profession. Taking an audition or having a stressful performance makes us look into the abyss of our own personal fears; fears as diverse and intense as we make them, ranging from the mundane to the existential. Indeed, performance is a microcosm of life condensed into a few minutes." -from the Preface to the 2nd Edition
